PLEASE NOTE
-
Composting will only be available at our Bellefontaine location on South Detroit Street.

-
Place no non-compostable plastic bags or other containers into carts. Non-compostable contamination greatly hampers the composting process.

-
Make sure cart lids are completely closed when you’re done. This will help keep the station tidy and issue free.

-
Enjoy the process! Let us know if you have questions or ideas, and share with your friends and via your favorite social venue how easy and fun it is to compost!
WHAT CAN BE COMPOSTED?
FRUITS & VEGGIES
These items are some of the easiest to compost in a back yard setting. Composting on site is always best, but in situations where on site composting is not an option GoZERO is proud to help make composting possible.
BEANS & EGGS
These items are compostable in a back yard setting. However, they represent more nutrient dense material which can be harder to manage and compost well.
WOOD, YARD & ANIMAL WASTE
GoZERO can compost these items despite their not being food. Consider your program’s specific situation.
BAKED GOODS & PASTA
Yeasts from breads can help microbial and fungal composting processes.
MEAT & DAIRY
Even sea food and bones are acceptable in GoZERO’s large scale agricultural composting operation. It’s part of our commitment to broad spectrum and food waste to
composting disposal centric services.
FATS & SUGARS
Liquids and flow-able food grade oils and greases up to 50% by volume per container are allowable. Please let us know if you think you may be disposing of large quantities of any flow-able liquids.
NON-PLASTIC COATED PAPER
Include napkins, paper towels, food soiled paper, wax coated paper, and packaging. Exclude items which may
have plastic coatings.
CERTIFIED COMPOSTABLES
Certifi cations like BPI, TUV, and the ASTM D6400 composability standard are acceptable. Exclude items which claim to be “biodegradable” with no certification.
GETTING STARTED
-
Grab a mixing bowl or 5 gallon bucket with a reclosable lid.

-
Fill your container with kitchen scraps and compostable items from around your home until you’re ready to drop it off.

-
Drop off what you collect at the station as often as you like. Tip: Some times freezing kitchen scraps makes it easier to drop off less frequently.
WHERE DOES THE FOOD WASTE GO?
GoZERO collects food waste on a weekly basis, taking it to the nearest licensed food waste composting farm available. After as little as 3 months at the compost farm the finished compost is tested and screened for use on the farm as an alternative to traditional fertilizer or made available for sale to the general public.
