CHARM the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials opens for the annual service to Logan County residents. CHARM provides a convenient outlet for citizens to properly dispose of, and recycle, Household Hazardous Wastes. Citizens may bring from their homes left over household cleaning products, gardening and lawn pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, used automotive fluids such as oil, antifreeze, and brake fluids, all types of batteries, scrap tires, fluorescent light tubes, oil based paints, and any product containing elemental mercury. Some items, such as used oil, are received and recycled without a fee being charged, while others, such as scrap tires require a small fee to cover the cost of transporting to the recycling facility. A free brochure is available describing the full service and can be picked up at any of the 16 Recycling Centers in Logan County or ask for one to be mailed to your home. Complete details are also available on this website. Please not some items are NOT accepted such as items that cannot be recycled and are not harmful in a landfill; these items include drywall compound, putty, roofing and driveway compounds and sealants, all adhesives and glues. Large plastic furniture and big child toys are also not accepted along with window glass, pyrex and automotive glass.
CHARM will be open without appointment on the first Saturday of June, August, and September and the last Saturday of September. Saturday hours are 9:00 am until noon. In addition CHARM is open by appointment only two Wednesdays in May, June, August, and September (check website for dates). Appointments are scheduled between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on those Wednesdays. If you do not have access to a computer call the office at 599-1253 to make an appointment to bring you materials to CHARM. CHARM is located at the Solid Waste District Offices at 1100 S. Detroit Street, Bellefontaine, Ohio.
